What is the Canon PIXMA MX455?
The Canon PIXMA MA455 is an inkjet scanner-printer that’s aggressively priced. It fits in a solid array of features too, including Wi-Fi, full duplex and the option of connecting to smartphones through an app.
Canon PIXMA MX455 – Design
A quick glance at Canon’s PIXMA MX455 won’t immediately distinguish it
from any of the other machines in the company’s range of SOHO
all-in-ones. It has the same, big, black box appearance, with its
Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) set into the chamfered top of its
scanner lid.
When you look a bit more closely, though, you start to see the differences, such as the Canon PIXMA MX455’s small, mono display with its two line by 16 character LCD and the Fast Front system of paper trays, which gives it a big footprint when open.
We can’t really see why these trays are particularly fast as, before you start printing, you have to fold down the front cover, swivel out an extension and flip up a paper stop on the feed tray, before folding down an interior tray and pulling out another extension on the output one.
There are no memory card slots on the Canon PIXMA MX455 and just a single front-panel USB socket, through which you can download scans, but not upload files for printing. This seems like a wasted opportunity.
The control panel is well laid out with four mode buttons for copy, fax, scan and settings, a number pad for fax dialling and buttons for black and colour scan and copy jobs.
Canon PIXMA MX455 – Connections
The Canon PIXMA MX445 can be connected via USB, but most people will probably go for its wireless capabilities, where it can be connected to a suitably equipped wireless router with a couple of button presses, calling in WPS setup.
Using Canon’s Android or iOS apps, you can then print from most phones and tablets, direct to the printer, as well as from any networked PC or Mac. Canon provides its Image Garden and Easy Web Print applications too.
