iPhone 12 mini is tiny! Here’s how to it compares to other phones (including an iPod Classic and iPhone 4s)

The iPhone 12 mini is finally here, and it’s certainly one of the smaller high-end flagships Apple has released in years. But how does it compare in size to some other phones? and a couple of iconic Apple products? Let’s have a look.

While many have no doubt become used to using big phones because there’s far more choice, there are certainly loads of people who long for the days when a phone could easily slip into any pocket and be controlled fully with one hand.

Apple has answered those calls with the iPhone 12 mini, a version of its 2020 flagship without the usual sacrifices you’d find on a smaller phone (and an iPhone SE). This 12 mini is virtually the same as the regular 12 with an identical camera, chipset and 5G support. It’s just a lot dinkier, thanks to a 5.4-inch screen.

But how does it compare in terms of size?

First off let’s look at the complete iPhone 12 line. As you can see the 12 mini is notably shorter than the iPhone 12 and far smaller than the hulking Pro Max.

In terms of the display, each of the new models has an OLED panel with wide colour support and proper HDR 10. The 12 mini has a 5.4-inch display, the 12/12 Pro ups that to 6.1-inch and the Pro Max goes even further to 6.7-inches. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has the biggest display ever on an iPhone and it’s not for anyone who doesn’t want a (very) big phone.

One of the smallest Android phones we’ve reviewed this year is the Pixel 4a. Compare it to the iPhone 12 mini though and you can see Apple has gone even smaller than Google. In use, both phones feel very pocketable and among the best small phones around.

There’s no doubting the iPhone 12 mini’s design is influenced by the iPhone 4, 4s and 5 and that’s far from a bad thing. The flat sides, industrial look and heavy focused on sharp lines is replicated but with a full-screen front we’ve seen on the last few iPhones.

This iconic iPod Classic might have seen better days, but it’s still a good show of size for just how small the new iPhone 12 mini is.

Apple has even made the iPhone 12 mini box far smaller, with the 12 Pro Max’s packaging dwarfing its sibling.
