Xbox One pre-orders no longer guaranteed to arrive at launch

Newly placed Xbox One pre-orders are no longer guaranteed to arrive in time for the console’s release later this year, retailers have confirmed.

With Sony having announced in recent weeks the PS4 pre-orders placed after August 5 would not be guaranteed to arrive in time for the PS4 release date later this year, Microsoft now appears to be struggling for launch stock of its own next-gen console.

Although the tech giant has yet to provide any official word on Xbox One pre-order limitations first hand, retail behemoth Amazon has started warning gamers that newly placed advanced orders of the Xbox 360 follow-on will not arrive until after the console is available in stores.

Despite still accepting Xbox One pre-orders, a notice on Amazon’s Xbox product page reads: “Please note–due to high demand, orders placed for this Xbox One Standard Edition console from August 15 will be received after release date. We will ship orders as soon as we receive inventory.”

Interestingly, despite the seeming pre-order delays, Microsoft own online store is still allowing eager gamers to secure their Day One Xbox One console. A statement on the site reads the Xbox One is still “available in limited quantities, while supplies last.”

Far from the only online retailer to limit Xbox One pre-orders, Toys R Us has stated that it has sold out of its Xbox One stock and will now not offer it until the console lands in November. According to the retailer, the Xbox One release date will be held on November 29 although at present this is yet to be confirmed.

Set to go head-to-head with the PS4 in the battle of the next-gen consoles, the Xbox One has a rocky start to life with the Xbox One price set at £429, £80 more than Sony’s new gamer.

As well as being more expensive, the Xbox One has caused an outcry among gamers over proposed limitation of pre-owned games and game sharing. As a result Microsoft has been forced into changing its positioning on a number of points and amend its plans for the console.
