Windows 10 leak shows off Cortana and Xbox app

Another early version of Windows 10 has leaked onto the internet, this time showing off Cortana and a new Xbox app.

It was recently revealed that Microsoft would talk about gaming on Windows at its January 21 Windows 10 event, and a recently leaked build shows what some of that might entail.

This latest build of Windows 10 contains an Xbox app that opens out the entire Xbox ecosystem on your computer. As reported by The Verge, it provides access to achievements, friends lists, activity feeds, the Store, and more.

But perhaps the biggest addition to this latest version of Windows 10 is Cortana. We’ve been eagerly hoovering up any hints as to how Microsoft’s voice-activated personal assistant – currently to be found on Windows Phone 8.1 – will be integrated into its desktop OS.

This latest leaked version of Windows 10 shows how Cortana sits prominently above the search bar in the bottom left hand corner when called upon. There it responds to text and voice prompts, tying in to your notebook, reminders, and the like.

This appears to be a very early look at the Cortana function in Windows 10, so it’s far from feature-complete. Still, it’s a useful indicator of how this new tool will integrate into the new OS.

It’s also been noted that Microsoft appears to be doing away with the classic Control Panel for handling settings. Rather, the settings app now has a slightly Control Panel-like feel to it.

We’re looking forward to January 21 when all – or at least a great deal more – will be revealed.
