White PS3 Slim release date confirmed for January 27th

A Limited Edition White PS3 slim release date has been confrmed for January 27th, after the console is spotted on the Canadian Best Buy website.

The white edition features the latest PS3 slim body with sliding door disc tray, but on a stylish vertical stand. Bundled with 500GB of storage and a year’s subscription to PlayStation Plus, the Limited Edition can be pre-ordered for $300 (£190).

For now, a White PS3 slim UK release date is unknown, with the lastest lightly hued ramification a possible last PS3 iteration before the expected PS4 release date later this year.

Sony PS4 Rumours
With Sony PS4 rumours kicking into overdrive in recent weeks, latest reports have suggested the Japanese gaming giant is to hold an Apple-esque PS4 launch sometime in May. The pre-E3 2013 unveiling is expected to be followed by a pre-Christmas PS4 release date.

Speaking to Chilean website, Emol, on the May unveiling rumours, Sony’s Vice President Hiroshi Sakamoto earlier this week offered strong indication of the imminent PS4 launch. He said: “It’s still a big secret, but our Sony PlayStation friends are getting ready”.

“I only can say that we’re focused on the games related E3 event, booked for June. The announcement can take place there or even before, in May,” he added.

Some speculate that the next-gen console will be named the PlayStation Orbis, to follow the trend started by the PS Vita. In Latin the word ‘Orbis’ means circle, which could be a hint to the shape of the new console, but more likely to the improved synergy between the PS Vita and PS4 as, when combined, ‘Orbis Vita’ means ‘circle of life’.

Actual PS4 specs are far from confirmed, with some saying the PS3 replacement could feature an AMD processor and will still retain its integrated blu-ray player.

Will you be buying the White PS3 slim or will you wait for the Sony PS4? Is the Limited edition PS3 Slim a waste of money? Let us know your thoughts on the matter via our Facebook and Twitter pages or through the comments boxes below.
