Tinder matches users based on their favourite locations, as part of new test
Tinder is currently testing a feature that will offer you matches based on places you tend to visit, in addition to the more general location-based matching that it currently uses as standard.
When it comes to finding a good date, having things in common is pretty much essential. Over the years Tinder has offered a variety of different bits of information to evaluate how much you have in common with people, including music from Spotify, Likes on Facebook, and mutual friends.

Its new feature is called ‘Places’, and will (with your permission) track which locations you visit. Got a favourite barbecue spot you’d love to enjoy with a date? The new feature will happily show you other people that have also visited the same place.
Room for improvement
It seems that the functionality isn’t quite perfect yet, with Mashable reporting that the app sometimes mixes up different venues in the same area. But then it’s still in its trial stages, having rolled out in just three cities so far: Sydney, Brisbane and Santiago.
However, Tinder does seem to have been designing the functionality with a degree of sensitivity for its users’ privacy, since the app won’t track sensitive locations, such as banks or medical centres.
Personally, I’d love to compare notes on a date about a mutual doctor, but apparently that’s an invasion of privacy. There’s no word yet on when the functionality might be rolled out, but with it currently in public beta, it can’t be too far away.
