Temple Run 2 reaches 20 million downloads in four days
Temple Run 2 has hit 20 million downloads from the Apple App Store since it was released last week, developer Imangi Studios has revealed.
After shooting to the top of Apple’s Free App chart in just six hours, the sequel to the popular free-to-play game is already ranked the third highest-grossing app due to its quantity of in-app purchases.
Downloaded more than 170 million times on iOS and Android devices since its release in 2011, the original Temple Run has proved immensely popular with mobile gamers.
“The response from fans has been overwhelming,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months.”
The new game features improved graphics and environments that smooth the more angular terrain of the original with curves and hills. Ziplines and minecarts are an exciting addition, with Temple Run 2 still retaining its very accessible tilt and swipe controls that made the initial game a runaway success.
Temple Run 2 offers four playable characters, each offering their own abilities and attributes that can be upgraded. With the Temple Run 2 iOS app currently available as a free download, a Temple Run 2 Android app is due to launch later this week.
The original Temple Run hit 100 million downloads in under a year, with the sequel looking set to reach the same milestone in quick time. What’s more, further bolstering the title’s impressive figures, Christmas day 2012 alone saw the original Temple Run title downloaded 2.5 million times as people unwrapped their brand new Android and iOS devices.
