Sony: All existing PS4 pre-orders confirmed for Christmas delivery

Sony has reassured gamers that their next-gen consoles are on the way, with all existing PS4 pre-orders confirmed for a pre-Christmas delivery.

Although Sony announced back in August that new PS4 pre-orders would not be guaranteed in time for the console’s official in-store release this November, the Japanese gaming giant has now confirmed that existing orders will land in time for the festive period “as long as nothing goes terribly wrong.”

Speaking with CVG, Fergal Gara, Managing Director of Sony UK stated: “Everyone who has put down a pre-order so far will definitely get one before Christmas, as long as nothing goes terribly wrong.”

Addressing the potential PS4 stock shortages that are set to ensue, he added: “Within the first two to three months from launch, we will undoubtedly have ample volume to service any forecasts we have on sales. However, there may well be tight supplies at Christmas, I can see a bit of a pinch point around that time.

Offering further rays of hope to eager gamers, Gara has hinted that some PS4 pre-orders placed after the cut-off period will also still arrive on day one.

He stated: “If things keep going well we’ll delight even more people on day one. We don’t want to over-promise and under-deliver, we want to do the opposite.”

At Gamescom last month, Sony revealed that PS4 pre-orders had topped the one million units milestone in a matter of weeks. Now, although failing to give a precise figure, Gara has hinted that this pre-order number has risen dramatically, hinting at a potentially record launch for the console.

“We know there is a huge desire out there for new consoles, and that people want a PlayStation 4,” Gara said. “At Gamescom the global number was over one million units, that’s “over”, and the number has grown substantially since then.”

The UK PS4 release date has been set as November 29, one week after the rival Xbox One will hit British shores. Although being beaten to launch, the PS4 price is £80 cheaper than that of the new Microsoft machine, costing just £349.
