Sonos Playbar revealed as wireless soundbar
Sonos has announced the Sonos Playbar, a wireless Hi-Fi system and TV soundbar to upgrade the home cinema experience.
Nine amplified speakers and the capability to stream music from a myriad of sources, the Sonos Playbar doubles as a Hi-Fi system, whilst enhancing the sounds of movies and games played on the connected TV.
“Sonos has transformed the way people listen to music throughout the home and now we’re bringing our wireless Hi-Fi approach to home theatre,” Sonos CEO John MacFarlane said. “Playbar will change everything about the sound experience in your living room, bringing together amazing Hi-Fi sound for your TV and wireless access to the world’s music in a radically simple way.”
Sonos Playbar Features
The Sonos Playbar features nine amplified speakers within its sleek design of exposed aluminium and high grade speaker fabric. Three tweeters provide clear high-frequency details and six mid-woofers supply deep and rich low-frequency sound quality, combining to flood the room with realistic audio for movies and game playing.
Connecting via a single optical cable, the Sonos Playbar is easily set up to play anything the TV is connected to, including Blu-Ray players, Freesat or Sky boxes and game consoles. Wirelessly connecting to other devices on the home network, the Sonos Playbar can double up as a Sonos All-In-One player to stream iTunes libraries or other music services when users don’t fancy turning on the TV.
A subwoofer, like the Sonos SUB, is not required for the Sonos Playbar, so the soundbar should fit seamlessly into any room. Users can fit the low-profile Sonos Playbar above or below a wall mounted TV or rotate it to lay it flat on a TV stand. Built-in sensors allow the Sonos Playbar to adjust EQ and channel orientation automatically, meaning sound quality won’t be affected whenever the users choses to place it.
Controlled by the Sonos remote or a regular TV remote for volume control, users can also download the free Sonos Controller apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac or PC.
The Sonos Playbar will also connect wirelessly to any other Sonos wireless audio devices such as the Sonos Play:3, allowing users to upgrade their Sonos Playbar to a 5.1 Home Cinema System with additional speakers for a completely immersive sound experience.
