Skype for Web now enables landline and mobile calls from browser

Microsoft has announced a boost for its browser-based Skype for Web platform, bringing it in line with the mobile and desktop versions.
From today, users will be able to make voice calls to mobile phones and landlines, opening the door to cheap international calls.
Until this update, announced via the official blog, users could only call other Skype users via voice or video.
The new version of the web-based Skype also includes a guest mode that enables users to invite non-Skype members into calls. Previously the link-sharing feature was only available within the mobile apps.

The app also gains notifications so users will receive alerts even if they’re in another browser tap or app.
Last week Skype announced it was ending support for the Smart TV app so it could focus on the most-used platforms.
Today’s updates appear to be indicative of that change in tack.
