Shimon the robot will provide soothing relief when the machines take over
Are you fed up with how your bandmates go off on epic solos in the middle of sets… like Garth in Wayne’s World? Well, you may be better off with a robot
Shimon the jazz robot, a 7-year-old creation by Gil Weinberg out of Georgia Tech University may become your musical muse.
The four-armed robot is designed not only to play alongside a human companion, but to listen and improvise along the way.
“An embodied anthropomorphic robot can create familiar, acoustically rich, and visual interactions with humans … the visual connection between sound and motion can allow humans to anticipate, coordinate and synchronize their gestures with the robot,” reads a description on the Georgia Tech website (via NPR)
