Seagate just unveiled a new 512GB SSD for the Xbox One
Any Xbox One owners will know that increasing their console’s storage capacity involves attaching an external hard drive, rather than switching out the internal one.
And because Microsoft has eschewed the swappable hard drive on its console, unlike Sony with the PS4, Seagate has decided to provide Xbox One owners with a new Xbox-branded external hard drive.
The Game Drive for Xbox SSD is designed specifically for the console, and comes in the form of a 512GB solid-state drive that claims to offer faster install and load performance than the Xbox’s internal hard drive.

Seagate says the SSD should hold around 15 games along with each game’s associated downloadable content.
While the Game Drive doesn’t necessarily offer anything that another, non Xbox-branded external SSD wouldn’t, it does at least match the Xbox design.
The black and green enclosure should ensure some continuity in your entertainment setup, then, and the Xbox logo on the case also makes the drive look like a fitting extension to the console.
What’s more, the drive uses its USB connection to the console for power as well as data transfer, so there’s no extra power cable required.
Unforunately, Seagate isn’t offering the Game Drive for cheap. The SSD will cost $199.99 when it hits stores this month, which is pretty steep considering other SSDs with comparable storage can be bought for less.
There’s no word on UK availability just yet but we’ll update you once we hear anything.
