Samsung Galaxy S5 pre-orders open March 28

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S5 pre-orders will go live from March 28.

The Galaxy S5 will be available from selected retailers and the Samsung e-store from the last Friday of the month.

If you choose to pre-order, you’ll get your handset delivered on the April 11 Samsung Galaxy S5 release date. Although a Samsung Galaxy S5 price has yet to be formally announced, retailers recently leaked the handset’s cost as just shy of £600.

“We wanted to give our customers in the UK the chance to get their hands on the next generation of our Galaxy S smartphone as soon as possible by giving them the option to pre-order,” said Simon Stanford, VP of IT and Mobile at Samsung UK and Ireland. “With the Galaxy S5, we’ve very much focused on the feature that our customers want and will use the most on a day to day basis, and look forward to hearing what they think when they get their new device.”

Following the handset’s formal unveiling last month, retailers have suggested early interest in the Samsung Galaxy S5 has broken records.

“We’ve seen record numbers of pre-registrations for the Samsung Galaxy S5 compared to its predecessors so we know that customer demand for this new handset is exceptionally high,” an official spokesperson for Carphone Warehouse said.

“We’re expecting pre-orders to go through the roof when we open on 28 March as a huge number of Samsung fans are coming toward the end of their contracts and will be looking to upgrade to a new, yet still familiar, device.”

Samsung Galaxy S5 Features
The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 5.1-inch full 1080p HD super AMOLED display and runs on a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM.

It comes equipped with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage with microSD card support up to 64GB. This will come in handy when snapping away with the 16-megapixel rear camera, which claims to offer a speedy focusing time of 0.3-seconds.

There is also a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling.

Water- and dust resistant, the Galaxy S5 has a plastic body with a new “perforated” back panel design and is available in blue, gold, black and white.

Aping the Touch ID sensor in the iPhone 5S, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S5 with a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button. You’ll only need to swipe your digits on the sensor for the S5 to recognise it and is already compatible with PayPal.

The Galaxy S5 is also fitted with a heart rate monitor fitted under the rear camera, which works in conjunction with the new S Health app, calorie tracker and integrated pedometer.
