Samsung set to debut world’s first curved QLED monitor with Thunderbolt 3

Samsung has taken the wraps off its first QLED curved monitor which comes equipped with a Thunderbolt 3 connection, all in time for a showcase at CES 2018 next week.

The CJ791 QLED monitor measures in at 34 inches and sports a QHD resolution of 3440×1440 stretched over a 21:9 ultra-wide aspect ratio.

Tapping in to the QLED panel tech found in its high-end TVs, Samsung has highlighted that the CJ791 covers 125% of the sRGB colour spectrum, which should make it a decent panel for people into accurate photo and video editing.

For gamers, a 4ms response time is on offer and narrow bezels promise to make the gaming experience feel more encompassing and immersive.

With support for Thunderbolt 3 connections, the CJ791 can no only allow laptops with corresponding USB Type-C ports supporting the Thunderbolt 3 standard to pipe images to the display, but the monitor can also charge connected laptops and other devices at the same time.

This could be a boon for people who like minimal and tidy workspaces as it removes the need to have a separate charger for laptops with Thunderbolt 3 supporting ports.

Thunderbolt 3 connectivity also extends to all manner of peripherals, drives and external graphics card enclosures that support the high-bandwidth connection.

Samsung hasn’t revealed the monitor’s full specs or pricing yet, but no doubt more details will be revealed at CES, where the South Korean tech giant is expected to have a major presence and possibly shed more light on the Galaxy S9 flagship phone.
