Rid yourself of sin with this evangelical Facebook alternative

There’s a hot new social network in town that’s looking to scoop up some of Facebook’s market share but – sorry to say – devil-worshippers amongst you simply aren’t welcome.

That’s because Facegloria is a website that’s run entirely by a group of evangelical Christians, and they forbid sinfulness in all forms.

That means if you’re looking for somewhere to view saucy pictures, post “gay material”, or use any of the 600 forbidden words, you’ll probably want to go elsewhere. Lest you be condemned to the eternal fires of hell.

Or banned from the site, more likely.

Oh, and unlike Facebook, you don’t “like” posts. Instead, there’s an “Amen” button for when you think a comment was sufficiently righteous.

The Brazil-based website is currently only available in Portuguese, but the Facegloria team hopes to eventually roll out the service in other languages.

The site describes itself – with the help of Google Translate – as: “The perfect social network for you to share the love and Christian wisdom with others.”

It continues: “The Facegloria is a clean virtual environment, encouraging the exchange of edifying content between users, and keep updated information about their church or religious institution, attracting more believers through the witness, making social networking a reflection of their Christian life.”

Brazil currently has the world’s largest Roman Catholic population and, according to the country’s website, just 1 per cent of its residents don’t believe in “a God or a supreme being in some form or another”.

As such, Facegloria has managed to rack up an impressive 100,000 since it first launched last month.

Speaking to AFP, Atilla Barros, Facegloria’s web designed, said: “On Facebook you see a lot of violence and pornography. That’s why we thought of creating a network where we could talk about God, love, and to spread His word.”

Are you ready to abandon the shackles of sin? Then head to the comments and give us a hallelujah!
