Philips to integrate Android Google Play Store into TVs in 2014
TP Vision has announced that Android will be fully integrated in the high-end Philips Ambilight TVs in 2014.
Arriving in Europe and Russia sometime in Q2 2014, the Android-powered Philips TVs will offer viewers access to a broad range of apps in the Google Play store.
Access to the Google Play Store will be combined with the existing election of Philips Smart TV apps, which include the likes of BBC iPlayer in the UK.
The introduction of the Android OS will be paired with new quad-core processor to transform the high-end Philips TV models into large screen mobile gaming devices.
The idea is to make the gap between smartphones, tablets and TVs smaller, with the Philips TVs also supporting sharing content from Apple iOS devices.
Philips has yet to announce the model numbers, names or specs of any of its Android-powered TVs apart from the processor they will use.
