Philips joins the 4K TV party with the 65PFL9708 and 84PFL9708

The Philips 65PFL9708 and 84 PFL9708 4K TVs have been released at IFA 2013, marking the manufacturer’s first forays into the 4K TV sector.

Unveiled as part of the company’s IFA 2013 press conference, the Philips 65PFL9708 and 84PFL9708 both boast 4K resolution which are four times that of current 1080p Full HD sets.

As their names suggest the two models feature sizeable 65-inch and 84-inch panels respectively and will go on sale in a selection of European countries with immediate effect.

“Offering an Ultra High Definition TV means more than providing a TV with eight million pixels,” Scott Housley, Philip’s Global Head of Product Strategy said at the 4K TV’s unveiling. He added: “To meet users’ high expectations on UHD it is absolutely vital to implement world-class picture processing features as we have on our new Philips 9000 series UHD TVs.”

Philips 65PFL9708 Features
While the 65-inch and 84-inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel display panel might take much of limelight, the Philips 65PFL9708 and 84PFL9708 are equally impressive under their bonnets, with Ultra Resolution, the company’s own upscaling technology helping ensure early adopters aren’t left disappointed by a lack of native 4K content.

Running an Ultra Pixel HD engine, the Philips 65PFL9708 and 84PFL9708 add a 900Hz refresh rate for smooth, elegant images and integrated Wi-Fi connectivity allowing for simply access to the Philips online content pools.

Both models will come bundled with six pairs of 3D specs as well as dedicated remote controls, pointers and keyboards.

Philips 65PFL9708 Release Date and Price
Launching with immediate effect, the Philips 65PFL9708 is on sale now priced €4,999 (£). The larger Philips 84PFL9708 will set wannabe owners back a considerable €14,999 (

“With a recommended retail price of 4,999 euros, we have opened up a new price segment for well-equipped top-class UHD TVs,” Maarten de Vries, CEO at TP Vision said. “Large-screen UHD TVs are suddenly an option for a much broader audience.”
