HMD Global, the company behind Nokia-branded phones, is planning to launch its Chinese X6 phone in other markets under the name Nokia 6.1 Plus.
The phone, which will run the Android One version of the operating system, will be unleashed on July 19 in Hong Kong, with other markets expected to follow shortly thereafter (via Phone Arena).
The upper mid-range Nokia 6.1 Plus has a 5.8-inch display with a tiny notch at the top of the display. In China the device has a Snapdragon 636 processor accompanied by up to 6GB of RAM and 65GB of storage.
It’ll offer the stock version of Android, meaning it’ll be a prime candidate for a fast update to the Android P operating system when that rolls out. HMD has promised that all of its new phones will get the update, with support staff suggesting the rollout will begin as soon as next month.

Joining the Nokia 6.1 Plus will be the Nokia 5.1 Plus (Nokia X5 in China), according to reports on Friday. The handset will be announced on July 11, the reports say (via GSM Arena).
There’s also thought to be a flagship Nokia device carrying an in-display fingerprint sensor and Android P out of the box in the works, according to recent speculation.
Winfuture.de sources say HMD Global’s most powerful smartphone will feature the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. According to the report, the device will have an LG OLED screen, supporting the under-display biometric sensor which is yet to appear on any mainstream smartphone.
It appears this phone could be the rumoured Nokia 9 handset that could arrive at the IFA 2018 tech show, which kicks off at the very end of August. The handset is reportedly codenamed A1Plus or AOP internally at HMD Global, while the Nokia 8 Sirocco phone was dubbed ‘A1N’ within the company.
