Nintendo will finally give us our first look at the NX today

Anticipation for Nintendo’s next console has reached an all-time high in recent months, as the rumours mounted up ahead of an expected official announcement this week.

And while it remained unclear as to whether we’d actually get anything concrete this week, it now seems we can relax.

Nintendo has announced via Twitter that we’ll get our first official look at the NX via a preview trailer which is set to go live today.

The tweet confirms a 7am PT/10am ET premiere, which for those of us in the UK means checking Nintendo’s Twitter account at 3pm for the trailer.

And it seems Nintendo could be making up for its silence in recent months with the upcoming trailer, if a tweet from the company’s Japanese Twitter account is anything to go by.

Translated by Kotaku Australia, the tweet seems to reveal the clip will be a generous three-minutes in length, meaning we should get more than a brief glimpse of the console.

Previous rumours suggested Nintendo planned to debut the NX at a Nintendo Direct event this week, but with no word from the company at the start of the week, such a development was looking unlikely.

With some suggesting the firm had allowed the hype to get too high without providing any further information, the announcement that we’ll finally get an official introduction to the new hardware will come as a relief to many fans.

The NX is expected to be a portable system with detachable controllers that will make use of cartridges as opposed to discs.

Further rumours suggest it will support the same x86 architecture found in the PS4 and Xbox One, with Nvidia’s Tegra processor also expected to feature in the console instead of the usual AMD components.

The console is set to launch in March next year, so stay tuned for all the latest in the run-up to the official release.
