Nikon Coolpix S02 super compact camera announced

Nikon has announced a new super compact camera that fits in the palm of your hand, the Nikon Coolpix S02.
It’s the ultra-affordable follow-up to last year’s Nikon Coolpix S01, and in truth it’s a very similar device.
As before, the Coolpix S02 is a ridiculously small point and shoot. With dimensions of 77.1mm x 51.3mm x 17.5mm and a weight of just 100g, Nikon has ensured that it’s easier to cart around than most smartphones.
The key improvement over last year’s model is the inclusion of a new 1/3.1-inch 13.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, as opposed to the previous 10-megapixel CCD effort. It still utilises a 3x optical zoom lens capable of f/3.3 to f/5.9.
Another improvement is that the Nikon Coolpix S02 can now capture 1080p video, where the Nikon Coolpix S01 could only manage 720p. There’s also a new HDMI connector, so you can hook up to your TV and watch this HD content back.
There’s a slightly larger 2.7-inch touchscreen display around back this time, which once again is required to be the primary means of control on such a compact camera.
Like the previous model there are a couple of compromises brought about by those physical limitations. One is the lack of a removable battery, and the other is a lack of removable storage. You have 7.3GB of fixed internal storage, and that’s your lot.
The Nikon Coolpix S02 will hit the UK on September 19, and will cost £119.99.
