New LG Centum System appliances come with epic 20-year warranty

LG’s latest fridge freezers and washing machines are so reliable, it’s offering a 20-year warranty on the motor.

“In my day things were made properly,” said someone, somewhere. We all know a friend or relative who’s been using the same fridge since the 1950s, no doubt lead-lined so you can avoid nuclear fallout, Indiana Jones-style.

Modern appliances, meanwhile, aren’t as reliable or well made, or so we’re told. They’re not far wrong actually, but LG’s new Centum System appliances are bucking the trend by offering a 20-year warranty motor.

Comprising a new range of fridge freezers, washing machines and washer dryers, the Centum System range uses a new linear inverter motor that reduces friction. This is what allows LG to offer a 20-year guarantee on the motor, double the previous 10 years.

All the Centum System washing machines also feature Wi-Fi, so they can be controlled and monitored from your smartphone.

LG’s new fridge freezers also feature some clever design features, such as humidity controlled compartments and folding shelves for fitting in large, tall items, and a wine rack.

The new machines will go on sale later this year.
