Nest launches Nest Cam to keep tabs on your home

Having acquired Dropcam last year, Nest has now launched its first own-brand security camera, the aptly named Nest Cam.
Debuted during a dedicated launch event today, June 17, the camera will replace the market-leading Dropcam line, adding Full HD video capture and an enhanced design.

He added: “The most striking difference between Dropcam and Nest Cam is the way it looks. We’ve moved to this skinny, rounded design and built a magnet into the base so that it can stick to your fridge. We’ve also built in a tripod mount so you can place it anywhere in your home.”
Aesthetics aside, the Nest Cam looks set to push the home protection market on, moving to a 1080p resolution up on Dropcam’s former 720p standard. This is further enhanced by a ring of eight infrared LEDs that enable improved night vision protection.
The camera also benefits from an 8x digital zoom, with a Clear Zoom feature sharpening zoomed images for clearer, crisper visuals.
What’s more, the camera plays host to an integrated speaker and microphone, allow remote app users to communicate with those in their home.
“It works like a walkie talkie,” Veron announced. “Through the app you can talk to people in your home.”
As well as offering users live viewing of their home via the reworked Nest app, the Nest Cam will also tie-in to the company’s new cloud storage service, Nest Aware.
Like many existing services, this platform will allow users to dip in and out of their recent records, building on the camera’s smart motion sensors and action zones to alert you when someone is in your home.
This subscription service will offer 10-day storage for a £8 monthly fee, or a 30-day history for £24 per month.
