The Nebia Spa Shower is a Kickstarter success that could save you over £500 a year

A large number of Kickstarter projects fail or end up being a disappointment. But this isn’t the case with the Nebia Spa Shower, a shower system that became one of Kickstarter’s standout successes – and is now available to buy through Amazon.

What’s so special about this shower, you may ask? Well, it not only sports a futuristic design that features two shower heads, but it also promises to use 70% less water than a shower with a traditional head.

The advantages include less strain on the environment – and also money saved over time for the customer.

Dreamt up by a Sans Francisco startup Nebia, which is run by Gabriel Parisi-Amon and Philip Winter, the shower gained the unlikely backing of Apple’s CEO Tim Cook and Google chairman Eric Schmidt, both of whom decided to invest in the product after testing the shower. The Spa Shower also achieved fundraising success on Kickstarter, raising $3 million in only a month.

The unit works by breaking down the water flow into tiny droplets that cover 10 times the surface area of the average shower head, essentially doing more with the same amount of water. It’s estimated that Nebia’s Spa Shower can save an average household 75,000 litres of water a year.

Amazon has the Nebia Spa Shower on sale for £1077, which isn’t cheap for a shower system that doesn’t even include a water-heating unit. But Nebia told us it costs $399 in the US, although there’s no mention of a UK price or availability. Nevertheless, Nebia reckons that, for the average home, the product will pay for itself within two years.

The 46 reviews on Amazon give the shower system a decent four out of five stars, so it looks to be a handy enough home gadget, especially for those wanting to reduce their water bills.

However, when we last checked there was only left in stock, so you’ll have to act fast if you want to equip your humble abode with this particular bit of smart home kit.
