Marks & Spencer leaks customer details, suspends website

We’re in a golden age of cybersecurity gaffes, and Marks & Spencer is the latest to suffer an IT calamity.

Marks & Spencer was forced to suspend its website last night after a leak of customer data.

The site take-down came after customers complained that they were able to see the details of other customers after logging into the website.

The information, which should not have been able to be accessed by other customers, included bank details, personal addresses, contact information, date of birth, and order history.

Due to a technical issue, we temporarily suspended our website yesterday evening,” said an M&S spokesperson, in response to the fiasco.

The spokesperson continued: “This allowed us to thoroughly investigate and resolve the issue and quickly restore service for our customers.”

He added: “We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.”
