Is Skype down for you? You’re not the only one

Struggling to get in touch with your Skype contacts today? You’re not alone.
Microsoft’s hugely popular net-based communication tool is currently down for many users across the world.
Skype has confirmed that an unspecified number of its users are appearing as “offline” even when they’re connected.
This means that users, including those in the UK, are unable to make calls.
“
It continues: “If you aren’t signed in to Skype, you may be experiencing difficulty when attempting to sign in. Any changes to your Skype account such as your Credit balance or your profile details might take a little while to be displayed.”
The company adds: “You may also have difficulty loading web pages on the Skype Community.”
Skype’s administrators say that the team is “working on a fix” and hopes “to have an update for you soon.”
“Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused while we get this resolved,” the company adds.

It should be noted that the web version of Skype is fully functioning, so that’s probably your best alternative right now if you’re affected by the outage.
According to reports, the worst hit areas are the UK, Europe, and Japan.
However, posts on Twitter reveal the issues are as far-flung as the USA and India.
