Google Home Mini crashes when playing music at max volume – report

If Google Home Mini dislikes the music you’re blaring through its built-in speaker, it will turn itself off, according to a number of customers who took to Reddit to bring the (presumably) unintentional feature to Big G’s attention.

It should go without saying that Home’s comical act of rebellion is actually a bug, which appears to be triggered by ramping the volume up to the red line – but from what we can tell, it only occurs when listening to a small subset of songs.

Here’s the strange thing: There doesn’t appear to be a link between the type of music being played and the glitch occurring. We noted down the genre and tempo of the songs that caused our Home Mini to crash – and it was completely random.

The bug was also reported on Google’s Product Forums, where a Product Manager issued the following statement:

Our team would like to investigate this further. Below are a couple things we’ll need from you. Please recreate the issue then immediately submit feedback report from the Google Home app and include the following information in the description:

  1. The keyword: “GHT3 – Google Home Mini reboot at high volume”.
  2. Brief detailed description of the exact events you’re experiencing.
  3. Be sure to check the box for include screenshot and logs.
