Despite being one of the most depraved places on the internet, 4chan is also an inimitable success.
Google has hired the creator of 4chan, an online imageboard notorious for its lax moderation.
Christopher Poole, who built the site when he was just 15 years old, announced he was joining Google on his blog yesterday.
It’s still not clear what his exact job title will be, but most speculation points to a social media oriented position.
“Today I’m excited to announce that I’ve joined Google,” writes Poole. “I can’t wait to contribute my own experience from a dozen years of building online communities, and to begin the next chapter of my career at such an incredible company.”

“When meet meeting with current and former Googlers, I continually find myself drawn to their intelligence, passion, and enthusiasm – as well as a universal desire to share it with others,” Poole explains.
He continues: “I’m also impressed by Google’s commitment to enabling these same talented people to tackle some of the world’s most interesting and important problems.”

Poole launched 4chan in 2003, and the site quickly became a pop culture phenomenon.
The website is responsible for popularising a number of classic memes, including Lolcats, Rickrolling, ‘Chocolate Rain’, Boxxy, and Pedobear.
