Dyson Supersonic hairdryer is going for gold with hand gilded edition

Most Dyson products suck, but this one blows. The company has announced a 23.75 karat gold-plated version of its Supersonic hair dryer with a startling $500 price tag.
The gilded version of the premium haircare device is naturally the most expensive in the range, coming it a $100 more expensive than the OG Supersonic and $50 more than the stylist’s edition.
The company says it is “hand gilded in gold leaf” and “perfectly blends artisan engineering precision with artisan craft.” To accompany the release, Dyson has even release a fancy video and an entire webpage (via The Verge) dedicated to the gilding process.
The gold-plated Dyson Supersonic is finished with the classic Dyson blue, while the presentation case uses the same red as the Gesso primer used during the gilding process.
Beyond the fancy finish, the Supersonic does offer plenty of benefits over your bog-standard blowdryer. Our reviewer Amy Cutmore says it dries hair in around half the time, will do so without blowing out your ear drums and results in smoother and straighter locks overall.
It offers a number of speed and temperature options, but you’ll need to turn it off before you can adjust those. It’s also no lighter than a regular hairdryer, despite its appearance. Nevertheless it earned a 9/10 review and high praise from our tester.

She writes: “If you really care about your ‘do, then I reckon the Supersonic is a worthy buy. Its ability to smooth hair was particularly impressive. It could save you a fortune in styling products, and you might even be able to ditch your GHDs or those pricey Brazilian straightening treatments at your local salon.
“But it’s the speed of this dryer that puts it a cut above the rest. Because anything that buys us an extra 10 minutes in bed is a winner in our book.”
