Could the Nintendo NX be revealed as early as this week?

While rumours and speculation have been ramping up considerably in the past few months, Nintendo is yet to officially confirm specific details regarding its upcoming NX console’s appearance or specs.
Fans have been waiting for concrete details from the company for some time now, with many expecting Nintendo to announce the console officially this week, thanks to rumours of a 21 October launch.
The rumours line up with previous reports suggesting that Nintendo will hold a Nintendo Direct event this Friday.

But with the date creeping ever closer and no word from the company on a possible big reveal, such a launch is looking less and less likely.
Still, many will still be expecting to see something from Nintendo before the month is up, as talk of the company allowing expectations to get too high becomes more prevalent.
Wall Street Journal tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki had the following to say via Twitter, pointing out the lack of communication from Nintendo:

At this point, then, it remains unclear whether or not the console will be given an official announcement this week.
The NX is expected to be a portable system with detachable controllers that will make use of cartridges as opposed to discs.
Further rumours suggest it will support the same x86 architecture found in the PS4 and Xbox One, with Nvidia’s Tegra processor also expected to feature in the console instead of the usual AMD components.
Nintendo is expected to release the NX in March 2017, but we’re hoping to get an official look at the device, if not this week, very soon.
