Yellow Submarine is Pro-ject’s stunning new Beatles-themed record player

For many, the simple act of owning a turntable is enough to affirm your commitment to classic music, but Pro-ject’s latest record spinner is for the truly dedicated.
The deck is part of an ongoing series from the manufacturer celebrating the work of The Beatles, and it’s shaped, appropriately enough, like the iconic yellow submarine from the song…well you get the idea.
It’s the most interesting looking turntable of the lineup so far. Previous Beatles-themed efforts from the company have proven to be little more than unique colour-schemes of existing models, but this yellow submarine model has a completely unique shape, with the entire base shaped like the iconic craft from the film.
This song in particular has been chosen because of the upcoming re-release of Yellow Submarine, which will see the 1968 movie come out in 4K for the first time.
Specs-wise, this £389 turntable features a belt-drive system, and a special yellow Concorde cartridge from Ortofon that’s exclusive for this model. The tonearm is made of aluminium, and the platter is glass, with 33/45rpm speed settings that you’ll have to manually switch between.
We’re not going to tell you which is the first record you should play if you decide to grab this turntable for yourself, but you can appreciate there’s only one correct answer…
