A slew of Audi models will feature Amazon Music built-in to the dashboard
Audi’s is injecting a cohort of its cars with access to Amazon Prime Music and Amazon Music Unlimited through its nifty infotainment unit.
The integration of Amazon’s music services with Audi’s MMI infotainment system and its MMI Connect app will give drivers of 2017 and future 2018 models of the Audi A3, A4, Q7, R8 and TT cars the ability to blast out their Amazon Music playlists through their car’s speakers without needing to worry about fiddly smartphone syncing or other distracting processes.
Audi’s 2018 Q5 and A5 will also have Amazon Music integration, and we can expect future cars from Audi to also sport the feature.
With more than two million songs available on Prime Music, Audi drivers should have plenty to listen to while making lengthy commutes.
Audi’s MMI infotainment tech is already pretty well-equipped and supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which through interfacing with the MMI system brings a plethora of streaming services, notably Spotify, that can be safely navigated via infotainment controls rather than trying to illegally tap away at smartphones while behind the wheel.
But the addition of Amazon’s music services will likely be a welcome extra and its simple setup via compatible Audi in-car Wi-Fi can avoid the need to tether phones to infotainment units or establish Bluetooth connections.
This tet-a-tet between Audi and Amazon could also pave the way for Alexa integration into future Audi cars, offering the opportunity for advanced voice controls and smart features, though this is just speculation on our part.
