The rumoured 12-inch Apple MacBook Air could feature reversible USB ports and a replacement technology for the MagSafe charging solution, according to reports on Monday.
Following speculation last week, claiming the firm will introduce the new super-slim notebook in iOS device-style colours in the middle of next year, more information has come to light.
According to Jack March, the source behind last week’s reports, the MacBook Air will feature a “noticeably thinner design” and the slimmer, revisable USB Type C technology that was introduced last month.
Something else contributing to the skinny profile is the rumoured fanless design thanks to the inclusion of the Intel Broadwell chips, that allow high performance at a lower temperature.
Monday’s report also claims the keyboard design will be revamped with March saying “it leaves almost no space on the side.”
The speaker will also be above the keyboard and visible acceding to the report. This differs from the current crop of MacBook Air lineups which feature the speakers beneath the keyboard.
Apple will also adopt much thinner display bezels that are more similar to MacBook Pro Retina models. Of course, it’s also been rumoured that the 12-inch MacBook Air will finally bring Retina Display technology to the range.
Finally, March suggests Apple has developed a new charger technology that means the trusty MagSafe solution will be replaced. The report isn’t specific, but that certainly raises one or two eyebrows in our corner of the internet.
The MagSafe tech is almost universally recognised as a fine innovation, so it’s difficult to see Apple getting rid of it. Redesigning? Possibly. Ditching altogether? Highly unlikely.
That tidbit is enough reason to take these reports with a healthy shower of salt.
