Hey Niall, I hate my Samsung Toco Ultra! if you only had £50-£100 for a PAYG handset, what model would you buy? I don't need amazing features, just a decent phone with a good consistent and clear OS, preferably with physical controls unless there's a phone out there with an exceptionally good touchscreen ( I doubt it for under £100)

I'm a student so I can't get that iPhone 4 but your help for a substitute would be much appreciated :)

thanks

@Niall Magennis - In your Verdict you wrote "remember to factor in the price of a miniSD card"...

I'm sure you meant microSD instead, which you mentioned earlier in the review.

Just thought I should point that out. =)

Hiya Jack. As a former Tocco Ultra owner myself, mine drove me to distraction. Unfortunately I couldn't trade mine in for money (Back damaged, fixing it isn't worth it), so will recycle I guess using envirophone or the like.

Orange San Francisco at £99 is the best budget Android by a mile and you get a great screen and reasonable performance for the price. You'll want to get rid of the Orange crapware that comes with it though, which is simple enough using Zeam/LauncherPro apps, or if you're feeling geeky enough, try it with a Froyo ROM.

I got a 2nd hand Hero myself, which I found very usable and I can asjust it on the fly which helps and some apps I've discovered I can't live without. Got mine for £120 a month or two ago, but I expect it can be had for under £100 now.

Have a good look round the phone stores, get a demo and see what you like and get back to us mate.
