Yoshi’s New Island UK release date confirmed

Nintendo has confirmed Yoshi’s New Island will arrive in the UK on March 14.

Europeans will be able to play Yoshi’s New Island on the same day as the Americans, as Nintendo confirms a simultaneous release date for the US and Europe.

The upcoming platform was originally scheduled for a loose spring release date in the UK, but now Nintendo has revealed it won’t stagger the Yoshi’s New Island release date.

Posting the release date announcement on Twitter, the Japanese gaming giant also released the first official picture of the game’s box art with cute hand drawn graphics.

The box art obviously takes strong inspiration from the game as Nintendo says Yoshi’s New Island features a variety of art styles including watercolours, crayon and oil paints.

“You’ll be able to explore the enchanting world of Yoshi’s New Island on Nintendo #3DS on 14th March!” read the Nintendo tweet.

Yoshi’s New Island is a sequel to the SNES classic title, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and is actually being produced by Takashi Tezuka who served as creative director for the 1995 SNES original.

The Nintendo 3DS game will retain some of the series’ key mechanics including Yoshi’s distinctive flutter jump, egg throw and ground-pound.

However, the title will introduce new ones to make use of 3DS features like the gyroscope.

Some of these new features include the Mega Eggs seen in the teaser trailer below that can be used to destroy objects, reveal hidden doors and obtain coins.

This Mega Eggs can be controlled using the 3DS’ gyro sensor, while the game’s binocular ability lets you uncover secret areas with the eggs.
