White Xbox One could be given consumer release after all

The repeatedly leaked white Xbox One console could be given a consumer release despite recent reports to the contrary, Microsoft has suggested.

With the white Xbox One having this week been unveiled as a limited edition model which would be given out free and exclusively to those Microsoft employees who had worked on the console’s launch, it had been suggested the lighter hued console would not be made available to consumers.

Now, however, Microsoft’s Director of Programming, Larry Hryb – who is also known under his gamertag Major Nelson – has claimed that the white Xbox One could be given a retailer release after all.

Those looking for the device at launch will be left disappointed, however, Hryb has suggested any launch will not take place in the foreseeable future.

Commenting on the Reddit post which first brought the white Xbox One to light, Hryb responded to queries as to whether the white console would be given a public release stating: “maybe waaaay in the future.” He later suggested that this was “a joking ‘maybe’.”

Those Microsoft employees set to receive a complimentary white Xbox One will see the lightly hued console paired with a similarly toned Xbox One controller and a year’s free access to Xbox Live.

What’s more, the console will come engraved with the message “I made this” and be boxed with all first party Xbox One launch games and a special achievement.

Although the Xbox One release date has yet to be set, recent leaks have claimed the console will go on sale on November 8, one week before the rival PS4 touches down in the US. An Xbox One price has been set at £429.
