Naughty Dog has announced all of the multiplayer maps and gameplay modes within the forthcoming Uncharted 4 release will be available free of charge.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog on Monday, the studio said it was democratising access to multiplayer by making all maps and modes available to everyone, while making all downloadable content available to earn through regular gameplay.
That means, there’s no exclusive items available to those who simply wish to part with cash. The studio says it’ll lead to a united community, which rewards loyal gamers.

“Right off the bat, we want to highlight that all future maps and modes will be included with Uncharted 4 at no additional cost, and all vanity and gameplay in-game store items will be unlockable through gameplay,” lead designer Robert Cogburn.
“Our DLC release approach will represent an entirely new direction for Naughty Dog.”
The firm has adopted a new approach it calls Fairness First when says offers an “even playing field.”
The in-game currency, known as Relics can be earned by completing daily challenges and winning matches. These Relics can then be spent on DLC chests.
Gamers will also be able to use real cash to buy Uncharted Points, but there’s nothing that can be owned by those folks that can’t be purchased using Relics.
“The idea of delivering our DLC this way was greatly influenced by the goal of having a unified community,” Cogburn added. “Maps and modes will be available to everyone on the same day. This will ensure that all players are kept together and experience new content at the same time.”
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be released on PS4 May 10 after a number of delays.
