It’s come a long way since 2006, but Twitter isn’t done changing yet.
Twitter has announced a brand new button for its mobile app, and it’s going live today.
The new icon makes it easier to share a Tweet via Direct Message, and works in a similar way to how you already share posts in Instagram.
The button will appear as the fourth icon on Tweets, sitting alongside, Reply, Retweet, and Like.
“Every day, millions of people send Direct Messages to communicate privately with friends, family, experts, brands, and anyone else they find interesting on Twitter,” says Somas Thyagaraja, Product Manager at Twitter.
“With all this interest, we’ve also heard from many of you that it could be easier to share a Tweet using Direct Message,” the PM continues.
Thyagaraja adds: “This update is our next step towards making conversations richer in Direct Messages.”

According to Twitter, the number of messages sent privately on the service grew over 60% in 2015.
What’s more, the number of Tweets shared privately grew 200% in the second half of last year.
The update that features the new Message button will be available today on both iOS and Android.
