The Nexus 6P charges the 5X thanks to USB Type-C
The introduction of the USB Type-C connection on Google’s two new smartphones, the 5X and the 6P, brings with it an unexpected benefit – one charges the other.
Both phones come with USB Type-C ports, the latest USB connection type.
Whereas previous USB types have required cables with different connectors on each end, a typical Type-C cable will have the same connector on each end.
This means that it is possible to plug the cable into both the 6P and 5X at the same time which, it has been discovered, results in the former charging the latter.
Twitter user Marques Browniee posted the following tweet confirming the discovery.

He also explained that in order for the charging to work, you have to plug the connector into the 6P first and that it doesn’t matter if the 6P has less battery than its smaller counterpart.
The larger 6P has a 3,450 mAh battery and can effectively act as a charging outlet for the smaller 5X which uses a 2,700 mAh battery.
Google claims that the 6P offers up to seven hours of use from 10 minutes of charging while the 5X will last for 3.8 hours after a 10 minute charge.
