The next stage of Amazon's global takeover could be grocery stores

by

Amazon Fresh

Amazon wants to open grocery stores. Actual, physical grocery stores where you go to buy bread and milk.

That’s according to the Wall Street Journal, whose sources say small brick and mortar locations could be opened to serve the company’s Prime Fresh customers.

Those familiar with the matter also think the company will be opening curbside locations where customers could pick up their online orders.

The report says Amazon has been working on the project for over a year.

The Prime Fresh grocery delivery service, available in some areas of the united States, is $15 a month on top of a Prime membership and features all of the benefits of two-day delivery on items.

This wouldn’t be the first time the king of online retail has branched out onto the high street. The company has a physical book store in its hometown of Seattle and plans to open more soon across the United States.

With Amazon creating more and more pieces of tech hardware, the company is also thought be be considering physical locations for the Echos and Kindles of the world.
