Canada – the final frontier? Production of the new Star Trek series is set to begin in Toronto this autumn.
CBS has booked studio space in the Canadian capital from September, where it plans to begin filming the rebooted Star Trek series.
It will be the first new Star Trek series to air since Star Trek: Enterprise closed in 2005.
“The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilisations,” explains CBS, “while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.”
The as-yet-untitled Star Trek series is set to air in January 2017 on CBS in the USA. Details of UK airing have not been released.
CBS announced the new series on November 2, 2015, with Executive VP Marc DeBevoise saying: “The new series will premiere to the national CBS audience, then boldly go where no first-run Star Trek series has gone before – directly to its millions of fans through CBS All Access.”

The reboot is being executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, who has worked on a number of high-profile movies like Transformers, Ender’s Game, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He also co-wrote the 2009 and 2013 Star Trek films.
Star Trek first aired in 1966, and lived on for nearly half a century in varying iterations.
