The first glimpse of the PS4?

A picture of an egg-shaped device has appeared on the Sony UK Facebook page, which could be the first glimpse of the Sony PS4.

Sporting the caption of “It’s coming”, the picture could be our first glimpse of Sony’s next-generation console, or a hint that the PS4 could launch sometime in the Easter period.

Currently only appearing on Sony’s UK page, the picture could also suggest that UK gamers will be the first to get their hands on the PS4.

However, due to the design of the egg-shaped device it could just be a gesture honouring the new partnership between independent video game developer Ovosonico and Sony Computer Entertaiment Worldwide Studios Europe, who are working together to produce a new intellectual property for the PS4.

Sony has always been one to tease its fans, so this could just a pre-April Fools’ Day prank with the egg cracked open later to reveal the PS4 console.

Sony PS4 Features
The Sony PS4 was unveiled at a dedicated event last month, but although the controller and specs were released, we have yet to see the official design for the next-gen console.

Packing a significant hardware upgrade from the PS3, the PS4 will play host to an eight-core AMD Jaguar CPU custom built processor with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM and a GPU capable of reaching 1.84 teraFLOPS.

Sony recently unveiled official screenshots of the PS4 user interface, which will heavily integrate home entertainment features and social media functionalities. The Sony PS4 DualShock 4 controller has also been remodelled to offer a touchpad similar to the PS Vita’s rear touchpanel, and further utilise RemotePlay PS Vita technology.

In terms of gaming, the PS4 will feature the Gaikai cloud gaming technology, relying more on digital-based gaming platforms rather than traditional physical discs.

With a confirmed PS4 release date lying somewhere in “holiday 2013”, we are still in for a long wait before the eagerly awaited console will land on UK shelves.

Do you think this could be the PS4? Would the design put you off purchasing Sony’s next-gen console if it is? Give us your thoughts on the matter via the TrustedReviews Facebook and Twitter pages or the comments below.
