Snapchat hoping kids get down with two-factor authentication

Snapchat has made moves to up its security game, following major leaks over the past year.

The popular photo-sharing app has introduced two-factor authentication, which should make it tougher for hackers to gain access to your account.

Once you’ve updated to the latest version of the app on both iOS and Android, you’ll be able to switch on the feature from the Settings menu.

Moving forwards, whenever you fire up the app for the first time from a device you haven’t previously used, you’ll have to enter a six-digit code, which Snapchat will send to the phone number linked with your account, via SMS.

In classic Snapchat fashion, it will only be accessible for a limited amount of time.

Worried that you might forget it or lose your phone? You can create a handy recovery code in case the worst should happen.

Last year, the app was caught up in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, when the personal details of 4.6 million users were stolen and posted online.

In the immediate aftermath of the breach, the company said, “We recently added additional counter-measures and continue to make improvements to combat spam and abuse.”

Here’s hoping it works.
