The Samsung Galaxy Active has just been officially launched by American network provider AT&T.

Despite the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5’s IP67 water- and dust-resistant certification, Samsung still felt the need to launch the S5 Active and AT&T has snapped it up.

The Galaxy S5 Active adds shock resistance to the Samsung Galaxy S5 specs as well as a new “convenience key” that makes it easier to access apps when enjoying outdoor pursuits.

It comes in camo green, titanium grey and ruby red, and although it looks pretty chunky and rugged, the S5 Active is only .8mm thicker and .3mm taller than its flagship brother.

As for the specs, the S5 Active matches the S5 entirely, which means it offers a 5.1-inch full 1920 x 1080p HD Super AMOLED display running Andorid 4.4 KitKat and the latest Touchwiz UI.

It runs on a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The latter is expandable by microSD card to an additional 128GB.

Running on a 2800mAh battery, the S5 Active offers Wi-Fi, 4G, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and NFC connectivity.

As for the camera specs, you’ll get a 16-megapixel rear camera with a 2-megapixel camera up front.

The S5 Active does have the rear-mounted heart rate monitor featured with the Samsung Galaxy S5, but lacks the fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button of the flagship.

This is probably due to the fact the S5 Active features a different button arrangement on the front of the device, making them easier to use with wet fingers.

If you live in the US, you can purchase the S5 Active for $199.99 up-front on a two year contract starting at $27.50 a month.

AT&T is also offered $50 off the Samsung Gear Fit when purchased with the S5 Active.

specs and features of this Active version of Galaxy S5 seem impressive. I may
consider presenting this device as a father’s day gift to my father. Well, I am
using Galaxy S5 from more than 1 month now and like its features such as water
and dust resistant body, 16MP camera and 2800mAh battery to enjoy all these
features without worried about battery status. However, it is little annoying
to remove the flap over charging port in order to charge it. So I recently
purchased a wireless charger from Amazon
www .amazon .co .uk/dp/B00DDTZN4S

to keep the device fully charged by just placing it on wide charging pad.
