Russian YouTube star faces five years in prison for playing Pokemon Go in church

Remember when Pokemon Go first launched and UK churches began welcoming players to the congregation? Well the Russians have a slightly different attitude towards hunting down Pokemon during worship.

A YouTuber is facing up to five years in prison after posting a video of himself playing the mobile game in church.

Rusian Sokolovski, who had already been detained for 2 months by the authorities, has now been charged with inciting hatred and insulting religious feelings.

Ironically he was doing so to call the bluff of authorities who had warned players not to game in church because it contravened the country’s anti blasphemy laws.

The video posted by Sokolovsky earned almost a million views and remains online. Sokolovsky himself has almost 300,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Due to this bizarre act of bravado, there’s a decent chance those subscribers might go a while without seeing any more videos from old Rusian.
