Rumoured Valve Steambox console set for Monday announcement?

Subscribers to Valve’s Steam cloud gaming platform could have a dedicated console at their disposal, with the company plotting an announcement on Monday.

The company has posted a countdown website, leading to Monday’s expected Steambox launch promising to ‘connect the dots’ for customers who want Steam in their living rooms.

The teaser site showcases a game pat leading into the darkness, with a cat observing the action, with the countdown clock running out at 6pm UK time on Monday.

The company said: “Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads.

“This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.”

In an email statement given to Kotaku, Valve added: “As Gabe [Valve CEO Gabe Newell] mentioned a few days ago, we will be talking next week about the steps we’re taking to make Steam more accessible on televisions and in the living room. Specifically, we have three announcements to make beginning with the first one on Monday morning.”

It’ll be interesting to see what Valve means by adding “you” to the design process. Will gamers have input into what the console will look like, or is Valve going to ask users to donate to a Kickstarter-like project in order to make it happen?

Looks like we’ll find out on Monday at 6pm.
