Rockstar Games offering 500k GTA$ as compensation for GTA Online issues

Sam Loveridge

GTA Online
"Show me the money!"

Rockstar Games will be compensating frustrated GTA Online gamers with a $500,000 GTA$ payment into their game bank accounts.

Gamers who have been suffering from GTA Online access and save game problems will be rewarded for their patience with free money for their GTA 5 multiplayer characters.

“Given some of the recent technical issues during these first days of GTA Online, and now that things are starting to look much smoother (touch wood!), we are planning to provide a special stimulus package for all who have played or will play Grand Theft Auto Online this month,” said Rockstar Games.

The rewards will start appearing in player’s bank accounts soon, but no specific dates have been announced as yet.

“We will be dropping a cool half a million GTA$ in the GTA Online bank accounts of all players this month, starting as early as next week.”

Rockstar will be issuing the payments in two $250,000 deposits, the first expected to drop next week and the second before the end of the month.

Of course, there are some requirements that players must meet in order to qualify for the GTA Online compensation payments.

  • You must play or have played Grand Theft Auto Online at any time during the month of October 2013 in order to qualify for the GTA$500,000 deposit in your in-game bank account.
  • Players will first have to install a forthcoming GTAV title update which we expect to happen next week. That title update (1.04) is expected to fix the remaining instances of issues that have caused vehicle purchase loss and will also enable the functionality through which we’ll be providing this GTA$ stimulus cash to players.

Rockstar expect the payments to be automatically made, with players not required to make any additional actions in order to receive them.

“For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet.”

I'm Happy they have done something but dare I say it ... It's a bit too much!

I was looking forward to saving up and 'earning' the 400k appartment but now I will have it and a 10 car garage!

Thanks anyway R*

This was the only feasible way compensation could be made, and fair play to Rockstar for the gesture. Credit where it's due, with recent patches & at least one more to come they've all but fixed most of the mess. Shame for those who have lost progress, however. Now, hopefully the over-the-top but often hilarious histrionics on forums will calm down...Reading the comments from apoplectic kids has been entertaining, although they shouldn't be playing an 18 rated game in the first place, but that's a tin of worms I'm not opening.

Too much? no, sorry. Ive lost far more than a tiny 500k in vehicles from my garage. Just one of my cars was worth 650k. so this 500k reimbursement is crap

October 11, 2013, 8:47 pm

Thank you, Rockstar. I couldn't earn an apartment but, thanks to you, I'll be buying the most expensive apartment.

October 11, 2013, 11:17 pm

I think the players that lost their characters should receive more than people that just had a hard time getting online. I took a bigger hit most but I get the same amount. That is unjust

October 11, 2013, 11:37 pm

Then don't buy the apartment until you get 400k earned cash.

October 12, 2013, 2:30 pm

Then send them a message saying no thanks.

October 12, 2013, 8:47 pm

There should really be no complaints. R* are willing to give us compensation, they didn't need to nor are they obligated. If people had lost real money via the game then fair enough. I would like to add that I lost around 200k two cars costing over 300k plus mods, game saves and my character twice! I emailed R* and all they did was verbal advice. Though I am not complaining IF I get the 500k. Stop complaining and be thankful for the kind gesture. Whatever it is its better than nothing.

who say's I haven't genius?

October 12, 2013, 9:17 pm

exactly! its stupid that they are giving EVERYONE the 500k when some people had no issues at all with the game. The people that actually played, built up their empire, and character, only to have it vanish from under their feet deserve a bigger share than what everyone else is getting. If you have support tickets from before the announcement of the 500k for everyone, it has been said on their forums that they will be trying to return to the players what they deserve based on what they lost.

October 12, 2013, 11:37 pm

this is stupid why are you giving this to everyone ... I have earned my cars and my properties now everyone can just jump up to my progress... Just like that... That just adds to the issues with this game.

October 13, 2013, 8:03 pm

Then it sounds like you've done all you can... Genius. Quit whining and be grateful you're getting anything. Any other developer would say "too bad" and give you nothing.

October 13, 2013, 8:04 pm

You sound mad bro.

October 13, 2013, 8:07 pm

Completely agree with you. They told us flat out there would be issues at launch, so for people to be surprised when stuff starts disappearing because they aren't saving correctly, there's no reason for surprise. And on top of that warning, they're offering a VERY generous compensation even though we all knew better. Imagine if this was an EA release lol. We'd get nothing more than a "woops, we'll fix this" and not see an update for weeks.

October 13, 2013, 8:08 pm

Not everyone, just the handful of people who played at launch. Everyone else won't see a dime.

Yeah, i won't buy a big crib either, i'll just buy a shitty place, and buy a cheapass car, because getting big houses immediately isn't fun.

October 14, 2013, 4:17 pm

I cant seem to find a mission that pays the money to buy property.. Can anyone give me some advise.

October 14, 2013, 7:55 pm

thank you Rock* Makes up for the fact I couldn't get into the game during the first week of gta online being released

October 16, 2013, 4:11 pm

rockstar?, I am really disappointed in you, I had an apartment that took me a very long time to get, after that I saved up more money for a garage, after I bought the garage it took my apartment off me, and there is the trophy called 'American dream' (own an apartment, garage and insured vehicle, how is anyone supposed to get the trophy if you will just take apartments off us when we buy a garage where is the logic in that? VERY DISAPPOINTED ROCKSTAR!

October 16, 2013, 5:31 pm

no, actually genius, most developers actually do all they can to compensate for the lose, especially considering they are going to have micro transactions, meaning they want your money in the future. Not sure what companies you have dealt with in the past, but it sounds like they got over on you and you took it and liked it.

I Keel Zohmbeez

October 16, 2013, 5:34 pm

no actually Im happy seeing as how you may be getting 500k, the people that had support tickets in before a certain date, are getting 1m. so yeah wheres that "too bad" at?

I Keel Zohmbeez

October 16, 2013, 5:35 pm

If you havent earned enough by now to buy an apartment, you dont need the most expensive one..

I Keel Zohmbeez

October 16, 2013, 5:37 pm

sorry Mr Trollolololol, EVERYONE gets the 500k. Maybe if you paid attention to what was posted instead of posting on everything you can you would have seen that

October 16, 2013, 9:59 pm

Nope, not everyone. If someone picks up GTAV in a month, they won't get anything.

October 16, 2013, 10:01 pm

They told everyone before launch that there would be bugs. It sucks, but at least they're offering compensation, and you did have fair warning.
