Suggesting that Sony will look to follow Microsoft’s current direction and monetise user’s access to much of the online content available, latest Sony PS4 rumours have claimed that the Japanese manufacture will launch its next-generation console alongside a new premium subscription service. It is widely expected that the PS4 will be officially unveiled at tonight’s New York based PlayStation event.
Tipped as a replacement to the existing PlayStation Plus service, the latest reports, which have surfaced courtesy of gaming outlet Kotaku, have claimed that the PS4 premium subscription service will be known simply as PlayStation World.
Citing unnamed industry sources with a reputation for providing reliable pre-release insights into the gaming industry, the newly surfaced reports have claimed much of the PS4’s online content will be restricted by a premium rate subscription service.
“Orbis is following the path first set by Xbox Live,” the reports suggested. “Most of the PS4’s online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony’s new online service will be called PlayStation World, replacing PlayStation Plus.”
With just hours to go until the PS4 is expected to finally enter the realms of reality, latest PS4 rumours have suggested that the eagerly awaited console will play host to a new touchpad toting controller with integrated PlayStation Move functionality.
Elsewhere, with a PS4 release date tipped for November in the US and Sony’s native Japan, it has recently been claimed that a PS4 UK release date will be held off until early 2014 due to reported “complexities” in European distribution channels.
Further PS4 rumours have hinted that Sony’s PS3 replacement will play host to an inbuilt Blu-ray player whilst it is looking unlikely that the console will offer back compatibility with existing PS3 games, a feature that would be sure to annoy many avid gamers.
