Following last month's PS4 release date in the UK, Sony's next-gen console and Xbox One rival has now been made available to buy in 16 additional countries.

Having originally launched exclusive to the US back on November 15, the PS4 hit in the UK two weeks later on November 29. Now, the Sony-branded next-gen console is bringing fun to gamers in 16 more territories around the world, bringing the number of countries stocking the console to 48.

From today, December 13, gamers in the Czech Republic, Greece, Slovakia, Turkey and United Arab Emirates can all snap up the PS4. On top of this Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, South Africa, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela have all launched the PS4.

In the build up to the UK's November 29 PS4 release date, PS4 pre-orders hit fever pitch, with demand for the console so high that online retailer Amazon confirmed back in early November that new orders would not be shipped until after the Christmas period.

“Customers who pre-order this console from November 14 will receive their consoles after Christmas," an Amazon spokesperson confirmed at the time.

The PS4 release date was officially announced by Sony during its Gamescom 2013 press conference back in August.

Making the PS4 release date announcement, Andrew House, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment stated: “PlayStation 4 will be launching in 32 countries this holiday season and will be made available in North America on the 15th of November and in Europe on the 29th of November.”

He added: “2013 is the year when interactive entertainment takes a massive leap forward with the launch of the PS4.”

The PS4 has been bestowed with a raft of new and exclusive games at launch, with the likes of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Killzone: Shaddow Fall already available for the PS3 follow on.

Further PS4 games set to feature at launch include the likes of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and FIFA 14. A number of further high-profile games are all set to hit the console in the near future too with Bungie’s Destiny topping the eagerly awaited list.

Think I'll wait 6 months until the bugs/on line and patches are sorted. I think people that buy XB1 or PS4 on day 1 will be banging their heads on the table as the systems sputter into life. Both consoles are being rushed out with a lot of content not ready.

Can't say I agree with you there. I got a ps3 on launch and it was great. I'm expecting ps4 to be just fine.

Good. Six months from now you'll be bashing your controller against the wall, mouth foaming and kicking the dog as I demolish you in Ghosts full beast mode.

Very wise decision.

I really do not understand why you were down-rated. The vast majority of new products have bugs which need to be fixed in the first 6 months of production. Even the new MacBook Pro, which was only given an incremental upgrade, suffered from numerous problems, including fundamental keyboard and trackpad bugs.

Imagine you bought a ps4 and turned it on and it just showed a picture of a horse on the screen and that was it

What kind of horse?

What's the point of this paper launch in 16 additional countries? they can not even supply units to previously launched countries.
