PS4 can be switched on with PS Vita Remote Play
Sony has admitted that the capabilities of the PS Vita Remote Play will extend beyond gameplay with the PS4.
Answering a direct question on Twitter, SCEE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, admitted that the PS4 could be turned on using the PS Vita Remote Play functionality.
The Twitter user, who goes by the name of Adam, asked Yoshida: “Can you turn on PS4 while PS4 is in standby mode using PS Vita via Remote Play?” Yoshida confirmed that this was indeed the case by simply answering “Yes”.
It isn’t yet clear whether the PS Vita Remote Play feature will offer additional functionality beyond waking the PS4 from standby mode, but it seems that Sony is working to make the PS Vita a versatile PS4 accessory.
Sony already confirmed that PS Vita Remote Play is required for all PS4 titles, meaning through the power of cloud, PS4 games can be played on the PS Vita anywhere it is connected to Wi-Fi.
“Yes, it’s true unless the game requires specific hardware like the camera,” said Yoshida. “It will be great to play PS4 games on PS Vita.”
However, during its Gamescom 2013 press conference, Sony, slightly diminishing the Japanese company’s focus on the handheld console, announced a PS Vita price cut.
It didn’t discuss pricing figures for the UK, but revealed that the PS Vita price in the US would drop from $299 to $199 (£190 to £126 in the UK).
There are also rumours that Sony will release a PS4 and PS Vita bundle when the next-generation console launches in November. Also offering the PS Vita at a reduced price, the PS4 bundle would be priced at a rather competitive $500 or £450 in the UK.
Sony has confirmed that the PS4 release date will be November 15 in the US and November 29 in the UK. We expect the Japanese gaming giant will release more details on the PS Vita compatibility in the coming months.
