Nintendo NX graphics worse than PS4, launch titles include Mario, Zelda, Pokémon – report

The Nintendo NX is going to have a “dream line-up” of triple-A launch games when it arrives next year, according to a new report.

We can expect to see a new Pokémon game, a new Mario game, and the ‘Breath of the Wild’ Zelda game all launching within the first six months after the Nintendo NX goes on sale. That’s according to an article published by MCV UK, which cites an anonymous source “close to Nintendo”.

The report reads: “The firm is determined that NX will not suffer the same slow start as either the Wii U or 3DS. The firm has also been busy securing third-party support with Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision, and Warner Bros already on-board.”

The source also “confirmed” that last week’s Eurogamer report, which claimed that the NX will be a portable device that plugs into a TV and features a breakaway controller, is “100% accurate”. The unnamed informant went on to reveal that game graphics will be “somewhere between a PS3 and PS4”, and that Nintendo is “targeting an audience that sits between smartphone gamers and the more hardcore users of PS4 and Xbox One”.

An unnamed Nintendo executive has been quoted as saying: “It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one. It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.”

In April this year, Nintendo confirmed that the new NX console would be released globally in March 2017. In May, the company also revealed that the NX was an entirely new concept that wasn’t intended to replace the 3DS or Wii U product lines. Nintendo has admitted that it is researching virtual reality, but it’s not clear whether VR technology will make its way to the NX.

If the graphics are worse than ps4,the nx will flop.

With MS & Sony making it clear they are upgrading their current platforms next year "the arms race" that Nintendo may have wanted to leapfrog restarted... To look at "gimmicks" rather than power worked with the Wii but failed with the Wii U.. The threat from mobiles is limited by the screen size (which hits the "Gameboy hard still) and the "Tablet revolution" has turned out to be a fad... This is an interesting space they are aimed at, but TBH it will be a hard sell if price is not right.

There's more to a game than just graphics; just because something looks nice and beautiful doesn't always mean it'll be nice or fun to play.

If the nx is less powerful than ps4,then 3rd party developers won't want to develop for it.That's what was wrong with the wii u,any console being released it 2017 should at least be able to play at 1080p 60hz.

who's to say it won't be 1080p 60hz??...some ps3 games ran in that. Nintendo games tend not to be overly graphics heavy so 1080p 60hz may be fine...its more than graphics that make a console

It says that in big black letters at the top of the page.I think you'll find zero ps3 games ran at 1080p 60fps natively. The ps4 has problems running at 1080p 60fps,i just don't want another wii u situation with nintendo,i would like to get the nx and know it will have 3rd party support,so i don't have to buy another console to play the games from 3rd party developers. With neo and scorpio both probably doing 1080p 60fps standing on their heads,if the nx is underpowered 3rd partys wont want the faff, but i think the nx will kick-arse.

It's not just a graphic issue, it's an all-round power issue. Nintendo need to make a console that challenges the competition to get 3rd party support, and consumer support. The Wii sold as a gimmick for children - but it later sold more due to being used for exercise with the Wii fit board. It sold on side gimmicks, not as a primary console. Wii U flopped due to lack of advertisement, and trying to challenge contemporary consoles with nearly a decade old tech at the equivalent price.

And people are smarter now, they're wary of how extortionate Nintendo is - that's why their console sales are plummeting because Wii U has no titles but their own gimmick, unoriginal IPs - and they keep brining out the same console, in a new format, with the DS. With features that are either dumb, unnecessary, or just unwanted. Fortunately, their back-catalog of games is faring them over, as well as their major franchises. But they're still using the same platform for majority of their games that they were 20-30 years ago.. just with improved graphics. If Nintendo bring out anything not on par with the latest PS/XB then it's not gonna sell basically because people will still need to buy a 2nd console for pretty much all the major AAA titles. And Nintendo will charge as much for their machine, with out-dated tech and features, for the latest'n'greatest from their rivals. Here's hoping the NX is AMD based, and is gonna be a powerhouse otherwise Nintendo may well as be out of the home console race all together.
